The Washington Capitals upgraded their blue line Friday by acquiring defenseman Nick Jensen from the Detroit Red Wings.

Washington sent a 2020 second-round pick and defenseman Madison Bowey to Detroit for Jensen and a 2019 fifth-round pick.

Columbus has traded for Ottawa Senators center Matt Duchene, the Blue Jackets announced Friday.

Duchene is set to make his Blue Jackets debut against his old team, as Columbus plays at Ottawa on Friday night.

Minor league defenseman Julius Bergman is also heading to the Blue Jackets, while the Senators will receive conditional first-round draft picks in 2019 and 2020, and prospects Vitalii Abramov and Jonathan Davidsson in return. The 2019 pick is top-three protected, while the 2020 pick is dependent on Duchene re-signing in Columbus.

The Washington Capitals acquired forward Carl Hangelin from the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday for draft picks.

The Kings, who got Hagelin for Tanner Pearson in November, receive a 2019 third-round pick and a 2020 conditional sixth-round selection from Washington.

Hagelin, who has struggled with two goals and eight points this season, is in the final year of a four-year, $16 million contract.

The Minnesota Wild traded forward Charlie Coyle to the Boston Bruins in exchange for forward Ryan Donato and a fifth-round pick, the Bruins announced Wednesday.

"Charlie brings unique qualities to our team. He is an experienced, productive, two-position player with size, skill and speed,'' Bruins general manager Don Sweeney said in a statement released by the team. "Charlie will provide the necessary depth in all areas of our game as we continue to battle for a playoff position. Charlie is a player our entire organization believes can help us now and moving forward.''

The Vancouver Canucks have acquired center Ryan Spooner, sending Sam Gagner to the Edmonton Oilers.

Vancouver is the third NHL stop this season for Spooner, who has also played for the New York Rangers and Oilers.

The Edmonton Oilers have traded goaltender Cam Talbot to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for fellow goalie Anthony Stolarz.

The deal comes after Talbot has been on a steady decline for a season and a half, eventually losing his job in Edmonton to Mikko Koskinen.

The Los Angeles Kings have traded forward Nate Thompson and a fifth-round pick to the Montreal Canadiens for a fourth-round pick.

Each pick is in the 2019 draft.

The Montreal Canadiens acquired forward Dale Weise and defenseman Christian Folin from the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday for David Schlemko and Byron Froese.

The Nashville Predators made a pair of trades Wednesday, acquiring veteran forward Brian Boyle from the New Jersey Devils and forward Cody McLeod from the New York Rangers.

The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired forwards Nick Bjugstad and Jared McCann from the Florida Panthers for forward Derick Brassard, Riley Sheahan and three 2019 draft picks.

The Penguins announced the trade Friday, a move that will give them an influx of youth in the 26-year-old Bjugstad and the 22-year-old McCann as they make another playoff push.
